Scoring Methodology
Transparent, data-driven, and algorithmic evaluation of U.S. Hospitals based on official CMS datasets.
1. E-E-A-T and Data Trust
At Hospital Data Center, our mission is to empower patients, researchers, and healthcare professionals with clear, accessible, and highly reliable data. We do not invent, augment, or crowdsource hospital performance data. Every metric presented on our platform strictly originates from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).
2. The Composite Quality Score Algorithm
Our proprietary Quality Score is designed to provide a quick, comparative snapshot of a hospital's overall performance. It is an unweighted composite index of five critical CMS data pillars. The score is calculated dynamically using normalization and inversion techniques to ensure fair state-by-state and national comparisons.
+ inverse(Complications) + inverse(HAI) + inverse(Unplanned Visits)
3. Data Freshness & Deltas
CMS releases dataset updates incrementally. Hospital Data Center utilizes a delta-based ingestion engine. When CMS data refreshes, our backend (Laravel) automatically checks for shifts in hospital performance. The data_updated flag on each hospital's profile indicates the timestamp of the latest CMS synchronization validation.
